Report from the Gulf Coast

The first in a series of of reports from HHU member Judy of ConfectionsInGlass

Since this is the first in a series of reports on the Gulf Coast Oil Spill, I’d like to start with the Florida connection.

As many of you know, I live on the Northwest Florida Gulf Coast, in Navarre, just 9/10’s of a mile from the water. We are just seeing occasional tar balls and rarely some light oil sheen in the Northwest Florida waters, but so far our beaches have fared really well, from Panama City, Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Navarre Beach to Pensacola.

A portion of coastal state waters are closed to harvesting of fish, crabs and shrimp, but the fishing is fine otherwise. Bays and estuaries are open, as are our Fishing Piers. Heavy equipment and clean up crews are protecting our beaches 24 hours a day and booms are protecting our inland waters. Sand and water samples are being taken and laboratory tested. It has been 12 days since the well containment cap stopped oil from leaking into our Gulf. More than 24,800 personnel are working on and off shore and nearly 34.7 million gallons of oil-water mix have been recovered.

Come on down and enjoy our beautiful beaches on the Northwest Florida Gulf Coast. The beaches are gorgeous and open for business and our seafood in our restaurants and markets are safe and delicious. See you on the Florida Gulf Coast!

Team Project No. 2 - Life's a Beach! Pt. 2

Prepare yourselves for a beach-o-rama this Friday from the Hearts And Hands United team! Today we have no less than eight different sellers who's all completed the Life is a Beach Team Project.

First of all: a warm and soft painting of giggle from Art By Trudy. Summer's here!

We have plenty of beach inspired jewelry on the team and at least one of these items will most definitely correspond well with a well tanned summer body.

From Jewels By Trish comes this handmade elegant pink pearl necklace with a starfish pendant attached to it.

Jewelry By Jakemi is the artist behind this handmade necklace with several small charms made out of a briolette, a ceramic bead and a tiny seahorse.

Perhaps a small treasure chest for your jewelry is needed by now?
From Anika's Art comes this sea inspired trinket box, decorated with sea shells and star fish.

Last but not least: send some summer post cards and spread the sunshine from wherever you are.

Do you miss some company while on the beach? Send them a card and tell them to come!
From PotomacRiverCreation comes this postcard with an actual photo of the empty but beautiful beach, Cape Hatteras in North Carolina of the US. The letters written in the sand? "Wish you were here".

Maybe you want to show someone how to make the most out of the beach? Do it with this sweet quilted fabric postcard from FabricGreetings.

Please drop by next Friday for another six items on the Life is a Beach team project of the Hearts and Hands United.

Team Project No. 2 - Life's a Beach! Pt. 1

I don't know about you, but Sweden (where I'm at) is right now experiencing the hottest summer since the mid nineties so naturally I'm spending lots of time at the beach and in the water.
The Team Project for June that I'm about to present to you now is called "Life's a Beach". The items made for this project is supposed to be made in one, two or all three colors: turquoise, orange and sand.
Pretty suitable for the hot summer, right?

The first three projects for "Life is a Beach" presented today, comes from Terrills TilesMoore Magnets and Designs in Stained Glass. Enjoy!

A summery, nautical sea breeze comes from Terrills Tiles with this four piece coaster set.
With hand stamped and hand painted motifs of seashells, lighthouses, sail boats and palm trees these tiles are perfect for your refreshing drinks on a hot summer day.

From Moore Magnets comes this lovely framed magnet board.
This magnet board is made out of Amy Butlers Paradise in Garden Periwinkle fabric that coordinates elegantly with the glossy orange frame. Six matching magnets are comes along with it, suitable for any office, kitchen or bedroom.

Here's a stained glass panel for hanging in a window, with an image of relaxing summertime on the beach from Designs In Stained Glass.
A beautiful blue sky, a sandy beach and a chair to sit down in and read your favorite book before hanging the red summer hat on it, before taking a cooling dip in the ocean. A few sea shells are attached to the panel.

Be sure to check back next Friday for three more summery projects from the members of Hearts and Hands United.
