Team Member Spotlight! NancysBags!

We would like to introduce you to Nancy of NancysBags and Designs Stained Glass! Take a look a this beautiful wristlet!

1. Your name, nickname and a little about who you are.

My name is Nancy . My shop is Nancy’s Bags Etc.

2. Surprise us with something about you that you think will shock us!
I can't think of anything that would be shocking. I am always busy with my crafts, glass art, sewing, gardening, my job, my kids - I am never bored and I love to keep busy. You would never catch me sitting down watching TV in the middle of the day. I cannot sit still - must be doing something at all times. Nothing shocking - just busy!

3. What is your main craft/art/collectible?

My main craft is sewing. I have been sewing since I was a little girl. I used to watch my sister and my Mom sew and learned a lot from them. I was making my own clothes at age 10 and have been sewing since.

4. How did you start with Etsy?

My daughter suggested I look in to Etsy. I have been selling my purses at local gift and consignment shops, and at craft shows. I joined Etsy October 2009.

5. Any secrets to share for success? or What tool do you use to track your success?

I am very new to Etsy therefore I really can’t offer any secrets - yet. I have been following a lot of advice I have received from others. I joined Facebook and Twitter. I am active in a lot of forums trying to get myself noticed. I have met many helpful and friendly people along the way.

6. Hobbies or pastime when you are not doing Etsy.

When I am not in my sewing room you can find me in my glass studio. I have another shop on Etsy making stained glass items. I also enjoy quilting, other needle crafts, knitting, gardening, cooking and reading. One of my favorite things - is when our children come to visit us - my family is very important to me. I love just hanging out with my family.

7. Where would your dream vacation be? and why

I don’t think I have a dream vacation place. We do love to go to Maine. We spent many summers there when our kids were little. I am happy being with my husband, our kids, and our families - any where we go would be a great time. I don’t fly so that does limit our places to go. For many years we would drive to Florida for our summer vacation. The drive in itself was a great experience. We recently built a beautiful new home, our dream house. Being at home with friends and family is just as good as a vacation. I’m a homebody and now that we have our new home - why would I want to leave? We do plan on taking road trips in the future but for now we are content being right here at home.

8. What do you hope to contribute and gain from Hearts and Hands United?

It is a wonderful supportive group. They have been very helpful with feedback for my shops. There is always someone there to turn to if I have a question. I hope in return I will be able to help others and help to promote their shops. I am very thankful for their friendship.

9. Where can we find you?

10. Where do you draw your inspiration from? Your strength?

I get my inspiration from my family, and my friends.

Mission - Create a Treasury with a Gardening Theme

For almost a year, the HHU team has created a treasury each week featuring visitors and regulars of our friendship thread on Etsy! Now, we think it is time to get you in on the fun!

So, we will be posting a theme and 4 shops each Monday - and challenging you to create a treasury that fits the theme and contains at least one item from one of the 4 featured shops.

You will have one week to create your treasury, and come back to the blog post and leave your treasury as a comment.

The best treasury will be featured, and all treasuries submitted will be mentioned!

The results of this weeks Mission Treasury will be posted on February 23rd 2011!

Mission: Create a Gardening themed treasury

Team Project No. 5: Going Green

Team HHU Goes Green this Friday!
The instructions for this particular project was to make eco friendly items. This means that the items must be made out of at least 75% re-used or recycled material.
This Friday and next we'll present to you the fruits of this project.

"A light heart lives long", a quote from William Shakespeare is printed on this quilted post card from FabricGreetings. The card is made out of tiny scraps of leftover fabrics.

This denim clutch purse from NancysBagsEtc is made of recycled jeans.

This necklace comes from JewelryByJakemi and the pendant is made of an upcycled Rummikub game piece. On the game piece a picture of the sun and moon is attached and covered with two layers of resin.

Next Friday the rest of the Going Green entries from the HHU Team will be posted. Welcome back then!

Team Project No 3: BBQ, pt. 3

It's Friday again and time has come to present  the two final items in the BBQ Team Project from members of the HHU.
Today's contributors are Nancy's Bags Etc and Ritzee Rebel.

A summery tote bag from Nancy's Bags Etc. Lots of space to carry a change of clothes so that you can go directly to that BBQ party, from a day at the beach.

At a BBQ you might eat hamburgers, right?
Ritzee Rebel has made this felted pin in the form of a cheeseburger.
You can wear it either on your jacket or as an adornment on a bag for example.

Next Friday, we'll introduce a new theme from the team. Let's say that summer is almost over and with it comes new obligations.
Welcome back.

Team project No. 1 - Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, pt. 3

It's Friday again and this means that I'm showing you three new items in the wedding theme Team Project from the members of the Hearts and Hands United Team. Today's artists are Designs in Stained Glass, FabricGreetings and NancysBagsEtc.
The sun is coming back to dark Sweden where I am sitting writing this blog post and sun light is a crucial element speaking of the first item of the three.

From Designs in Stained Glass comes this suncatcher.
The heart is made from a textured swirl clear glass with wire overlay. Blue swirl glass has been used for accent borders.
The etching says: One Love that is Shared by Two.

From FabricGreetings comes these two fabric postcards.
The old is the lace, the new is the sparkly trim, borrowed are the blue buttons (they won't be given back) and blue is the background fabric.

From NancysBagsEtc comes this lovely bridal purse. The description tells us that the heart shaped button represents something old, coming from the artist's husband's grandmother. It also tells us that the purse is Nancy's newest creation, just in time for the spring wedding season and perhaps someday, another bride would like to borrow this purse from you - on her special day.
For that something blue a satin ribbon has been added on the inside pocket.
